Shin-Osaka is a station neighbourhood. Per JR West's network map, Shin-Osaka is the Tokaido Shinkansen terminus, with bullet trains running every five to fifteen minutes to Tokyo and onward. The area exists for travellers transferring between the shinkansen and the Osaka subway network. The Midosuji line connects Shin-Osaka to Umeda in four minutes. A morning, afternoon, and evening report from inside Shin-Osaka would be misleading. The neighbourhood works as a transit anchor. Travellers spending a day in Osaka from a Shin-Osaka base hop the Midosuji subway south to Umeda (4 minutes), Honmachi (8 minutes), Shinsaibashi (10 minutes), or Namba (13 minutes) and treat Shin-Osaka strictly as a sleeping point.
