Three arrival points. Three modes. Per-neighbourhood times and fares in JPY. The data below covers international arrivals at Kansai (KIX), domestic arrivals at Itami, and shinkansen arrivals from Tokyo at Shin-Osaka station.
Most international visitors land at KIX (Kansai International Airport), 50km south of central Osaka on an artificial island. Most domestic flights arrive at Itami (Osaka International Airport), much closer to the city. Tokyo arrivals come in via shinkansen at Shin-Osaka station, which sits inside the Osaka subway network. The three arrival points need different connections; the tables below cover each.
From Kansai Airport (KIX)
KIX → Osaka neighbourhoods.
Three modes. Nankai Rapi:t is fastest to Namba. JR Haruka is fastest to Tennoji and reaches Umeda via Shin-Osaka with one transfer. Limousine Bus is the only no-transfer option, useful with luggage.

From Itami (Osaka International)
Itami → Osaka neighbourhoods.
Itami serves domestic flights only. The Limousine Bus to Umeda runs in 30 minutes for ¥650 per the Kansai Airport Limousine Bus operator's published timetable, dramatically faster than any KIX option for travellers connecting from Tokyo Haneda or Sapporo.

From Shin-Osaka station (shinkansen arrivals)
Shin-Osaka → Osaka neighbourhoods.
The Tokaido Shinkansen runs Tokyo to Shin-Osaka in roughly 2 hours 30 minutes per JR Central's published timetable. Once at Shin-Osaka, the Midosuji subway reaches Umeda in four minutes. The Midosuji line is the most useful subway in Osaka; it links Shin-Osaka, Umeda, Honmachi, Shinsaibashi, Namba, and Tennoji in a single straight line.

Train operator notes
Which option for which traveller.
Nankai Rapi:t. Premium reserved-seat express, distinctive red train, the fastest direct route from KIX to Namba per Nankai Electric Railway's official site. Arrives inside the Nankai Namba terminal, attached to Namba subway station.
JR Haruka. White-and-purple JR West express, runs KIX → Tennoji → Shin-Osaka and continues to Kyoto. The fastest direct route to Tennoji and the most practical option for Umeda (one transfer at Shin-Osaka). The JR Haruka also accepts the Japan Rail Pass.
Kansai Airport Limousine Bus. Slower (50 to 65 minutes to Umeda) but no transfer, no escalators, no luggage hauling. Useful for arrivals with multiple suitcases or for travellers landing late at night when train frequency drops. The operator's site lists current schedules and per-stop fares.
Taxi. ¥18,000 to ¥22,000 from KIX to central Osaka per Osaka taxi operator standard rates. Useful for late-night arrivals after the last trains; otherwise unreasonably expensive.
Late arrivals
After the last trains.
Per JR West and Nankai timetables, the last KIX-to-Osaka trains run around 23:00. After that, the Limousine Bus runs a reduced service until 00:00, and taxis are the only option from midnight to roughly 05:00. Verify final-train times with the operator on the day of arrival.
